Maternity Leave / Rights in Singapore by MOM

Recently was toying with the thoughts of changing job. Then came the biggest and most common worries of most women trying to conceive when it comes to landing in a new job and getting pregnant shortly after you join the company. Seems like it's a common worry among us that the company may either terminate us or we may not be eligible for 16 weeks maternity leave required by our government. So I did a bit of research and decided to share this here. (also serve as a note to self for future reference *grinz*) For those of us who worry when we sign the letter of appointment and already realize your are a few weeks pregnant, no worries at all. As MOM states that as long as you have worked for the company for at least 3 calendar months or 90 days, we are entitled to paid maternity leave of 16 weeks. This is applicable only if your child is a Singapore citizen and you are lawfully married. Also the company cannot terminate you (unless due to extreme unreasonable be...

The Miscarriage: Going Green

These days, whenever i see babies or friends or even strangers with their babies, i grow Green...Green with ENVY... Can't help it but I'd start to imagine if our little bun didn't lose its heartbeat how will life be like now? If Lil bun is still in my tummy healthily, I'll be at week 19 now and we will more or less now if it's a baby boy or a baby girl... There're so many babies and mothers around recently, be it out in public or even on facebook, seeing people post cute daily lives photos of their little ones... Sometimes I'd wonder, why is it that they can have such a smooth pregnancy even though some of them were unwanted pregnancy (looking at the shot gun marriages on the rise recently). I'm turning into a green monster..............=( Anyway the good news is, my AF (aka Auntie Florence) is finally here! and that's 8 weeks after my D&C procedure, that means we can start trying to for a baby again after AF is gone...

The Miscarriage: The depression?

So was i suffering any form of depression? Initially i was pretty sure that i am ok and optimistic about it, but at times i felt otherwise. Not too sure if this is largely due to my heavy weight gain after our wedding. It's like all the stretched skin, bloated-ness, tummy is perfectly ok if you are preggie or you've given birth to a healthy baby eventually, but suffering from the same symptoms and worse still, there's no baby just reminds me of the miscarriage over and over again. recently i've been dreaming of babies, as if i'm not feeling emo & depressed enough over my fat figure now. Gynae says it's best again to try after 2 cycles, but it's also perfectly fine if i happen to conceive again before that. From most of the source online, almost 80% is saying it's perfectly fine to try as soon as you think you are ready and the reason for gynae to encourage trying after your first cycle is for merely for easy dating purpose. much as i am i...

The Miscarriage: : the Mini Confinement after Miscarriage

When it comes to confinement following a miscarriage, there are 101 versions of old wives tales to confuse you. There're people who say (such as doctors and gynaes), since the pregnancy period is short, less than 3 months, it didn't affect our body much so we actually do not need to do confinement. But my gynae did mention that of course i can try to avoid the cold, icy stuffs still. And then there will be the extreme ones who'd think going through a miscarriage is more damaging to a woman's body than giving birth itself and hence one must observe the rules of confinement and the best is to do it for 2 weeks. But think about this, where on earth to get 2 weeks mc? we are only entitled 14 days mc a year leh... And then there's the reasonable ones and I'm blessed that both my mother and mother-in-law and even my brother's mother-in-law, who runs a chinese medical hall (TCM) belongs to this group. So naturally, i fall into this group as well. According...

The Miscarriage: : D & C Procedure

As mentioned, we've opted for the D&C (Dilation & Currettage) procedure which is very much like an abortion it's just that the foetus is no longer alive. I thought I will not need to go through the pain of bad cramps and heavy bleeding, passing out tissue and weird, gooey, organ-looking like stuffs down there and wondering if it'd choke the toilet flush or something..but gosh was I wrong. Was given 2 pills to take orally to dilate the cervix before heading down for my surgery 3 hours later. Oh man, the pills took effect as soon as 5 minutes later, i feel cramp like I've never felt before, it's 10 times worse than period cramps can! i wonder if that's what they call labour-like cramps as well? its sharp and painful and it doesn't come on and off, it's so bad i have to lie down in bed and my body felt weak all over. Decided to take a shower and wash my hair before going down since i'm not able to wash my hair for two days later on a...

The Miscarriage: The Worst Friday the 13th ever - our baby's heart stopped beating

it was all so ironic, when we were so excited and looking forward to see Lil. Bun on Friday the 13th, last friday, for our regular check up at the gynae's. Anyway since blog posts were dated from most recent to older posts, you'll be seeing our loss of lil bun before even knowing oh so i was pregnant. It was over as quickly as it started, just like how quick we were to conceive and how lucky we were to conceive during our honeymoon period and just when we thought we were in time to catch a late dragon baby, things are not meant to be. The last ultrasound showed that there isn't any heartbeat anymore and in fact i was supposed to be at 10 weeks but the foetus size shows that it stopped growing at 8 weeks. It was a complete shock to us as i was still having all the pregnancy symptoms then as described in my previous post. I wasn't having any spotting or bleeding anymore, let alone any pain or cramps. Gynae was quite surprised that i am not experiencing all those...

The Miscarriage: @ 10 weeks preggie with lil bun

Image source:  Baby2see.com This should be how our little bun should look like now at 10 weeks..that is not our lil bun's image though, got it off the net. Going to see gynae again this Friday. We’re both so excited and looking forward that we can see our lil bun again. Hopefully this time round the scan will be as clear as the above picture. The previous time cos my bladder was quite empty, we only manage to catch a blinking thingy that we were told was the heart beat and that’s about it. Morning sickness Just when I was told that morning sickness peaks at week 8 – week 10, mine somehow worsens at the 10 th week. Was feeling so bloated for the past few days, I couldn’t complete a single full meal. The only proper meal I’ve eaten yesterday was a bowl of cereal with milk..hmm…and if you include the chee cheong fun I had in the morning for breakfast hehz.. I have to skip dinner as well cos I was just too bloated to eat… My reaction to food seemed to ...

The Miscarriage: the BFP

I'm going to draft this post here in case my memory of the existing feelings failed me a month later....so by the time you see this post, i've safely entered my 2nd trimester! so this is going to be a long post as i'm going to compile the first trimester into one post hehz... Oh yes, it's a big fat positive!! but that's like after I've used to strip for the 3rd time haha... Reason for drafting this and posting only now is pretty obvious eh, most people do not announce their pregnancy till they've safely entered the 2nd trimester so if you see this post, it means i've safely entered the 2nd trimester. Do to the high risk of miscarriage these days, like 1 in 5 pregnancy end up with a miscarriage, most people choose not to share the news too soon, for Chinese some call it pantang but for the modernized society I think it's more of a getting everybody excited about it and building that expectation in everyone and if *touch wood* anything goe...

Day 6 & 7: Star Beauty Resort Hotel Review- Taipei Shihlin Market, Miramar Entertainment Centre

As mentioned, we decided to stay in a different hotel to fully maximize our stay in Taipei haha. Why stick to one hotel when you can experience different bed and tubs? So we chose this hotel, Star Beauty Resort Hotel and it is located at Jiantan road, near to Shihlin night market. Location ain't as good as it is a good 10-15 minutes walk to the MRTas wellas Shihlin Night Market. Nothing much around there except for plenty of convenience stores around. Location wise, we must say TS Hotel (Ta Shun Hotel) is still the best, only <5mins walk to Ximending MRT station. However there are certain perks in this hotel that didn't make us regret our choices, well part of the reason why I chose this hotel is also cos of the various tubs they offer and yes even Jacuzzi tubs!! Read on to take a look at the tub in our room... so this is how the hotel looks like from the outside... Our room, ok still messy with our luggage haha...looks pretty cosy though i...

Day 5 - Hualien - Taroko Gorge

We didn't really plan where to go and what to do in Hualien but the drivers and hotel receptionist were all saying Taroko Gorge is like a must go when you visit Hualien. The hotel actually provides half day and full day Taroko Gorge tour but as we need to catch the 3pm train back to Taipei they recommend us to hire a driver to bring us up to Taroko Gorge then can drive us straight to the station thereafter. We chose this option since the price is still quite reasonable, though I can't really remember how much it costs but should be less than SGD70 or way less ba. Let's talk about the breakfast at Bayview hotel. it's pretty decent and so much better than the breakfast provided at TS Hotel. Well, as all these hotels are more of bed and breakfast kind, don't expect the kind of typical 4-5 star hotel buffet spread standard. nice cosy cafeteria for breakfast, they even have bao too! decent spread i must say.. After breakie, there's still time, hence ...
