Our Muji Home Reno Journey | Electrical works and Aircon Trunking

Before embarking on our Muji Home renovation journey, I never knew that the bulk of the work comes from the electrical wiring and the importance of electrical works.

In fact, we totally overlooked that part. How many sockets needed and where to place them. Before we selected our ID, we met one of them onsite and the ID just went on asking us how many sockets and lighting point we need in this room, where we need the socket to be located at ...bla bla bla all of these during our first on-site meeting. Trust us, we never had such a pressurising consultation before.

Tips for you
A lesson learnt from our experience, perhaps before you even meet your IDs or contractors, spend some time in your BTO and visualise how you want to use the space and place your furniture.

For us, we thought we can come to that much later when the renovation is almost complete but boy we are so wrong about that. You should already know how many sockets you need and where you want it to be placed from the beginning if possible.

So now we regretted not shifting the socket for the Tv higher and relocating the socket in the tatami room. But well, it's still a mistake we can live with.

It's nice to have as many power points all over the house, but do note that you'll be charged per powerpoint so think carefully if you really need that additional powerpoint.
Mr Keir went on a rampant with the powerpoint. It was only when we see the quotation for electrical works did we reduce the number of powerpoint hence managed to bring down the cost from 2.8k to 2.3k  for electrical works.

As for the lighting, your ID should be experienced enough to advise you if you need additional lighting points and where it should be located. We leave the lighting points to Dave from D5 Studio Image and the end results were perfect.

Aircon trunking - To conceal or not to conceal?
This is another decision we need to make. From an aesthetics point of view, conceal aircon trunking is the way to go and also highly recommended by Dave from D5 Studio Image.
Initially, I was toying with the idea of not going with concealed trunking to save cost and also for practical reasons such as repair works in the future. But after seeing how some of the unconcealed trunking look like in some flats, we've decided to go for concealed aircon trunking.

The end result was lovely. Perfectly concealed with good workmanship.

Can you tell that there's actually a concealed aircon trunking below the beam? Imagine if we did't go for concealed trunking, how awful the trunking will look.

Concealed trunking that runs below the beam along our Kitchen. Yes, our aircon piping was much longer than a usual BTO as we relocate the living room and have the old bedroom 3 hacked. Hence the piping has to go one big round to the last room and we have to pay extra to Gain City for exceeding the complimentary length.

Nicely concealed and fully hidden once the air con is installed

A little boo boo, they forgot to conceal the trunking in our tatami room. Dave had wanted to correct the mistake but we thought it's something we can live with. In fact, Mr Keir can make use of the trunking to display some of his figurines.

Kitchen. All powerpoints were impeccably placed.

 Citygas piping was done too

Whilst they were installing and doing up the electrical works, Dave has also informed us to get our lighting and ceiling fan ready. So there were are with the delivery from EG Lighting. All ready to be installed.

Kid-Friendly Accommodation with slides in Tainan and Kaohsiung

Taiwan is such a kid's friendly place and one of the top travel destinations Singaporeans. Easy communication, a fantastic array of food with its bustling night markets, lots of kid-friendly attractions and the only country I know of with an amazing number of kids friendly accommodation !  By this definition, I'm referring to accommodations with slides, ball pit and lots of play feature for kids.  Totally the very reasons why we love Taiwan so much, we visited Taiwan in May 2017, did an Okinawa-Taiwan trip in March 2018 and this time around, we intended to fly directly to Kaohsiung in November 2018. Our previous trips to Taiwan has been saturated at just the North Taiwan and near the outskirts of Taipei, as we already have intentions to fly directly to Kaohsiung, South Taiwan should we want to visit the southern part of Taiwan. And so that got me started with another Kid-friendly accommodation with slides in both Kaohsiung and Tainan. I was astounded by ...

Taiwan Kids friendly Accommodation with slides - not your usual list!

And so from a mere idea of bringing Sticky Bean with us to Taiwan, this idea was put into action with Singapore Airlines 70th Anniversary promotion where you get to pay only $70 for a child's ticket! Though it's not exactly the cheapest option for flying to Taiwan, we thought to pay a little more for better service and not to mention safety since it will be Sticky Bean's first time traveling on a relatively longer flight. Her first plane ride was a really short one to KL, a mere 1 hour away. If she's manageable on the flight, we can then consider budget airlines such as Scoot or even Jetstar for our subsequent travels. So why Taiwan? There are plenty of reasons for our choice other than both Mr. Keir and myself love Taiwan for the food and hospitality. I'm sure you may have come across Awesome kids friendly accommodation with slides and other themed rooms in Taiwan that are trending in facebook. That was one of the many reasons why we want to go Taiwan too! ...

8 Day 7 Night Okinawa Self-drive Trip with Kids Itinerary Preview via Taiwan

Travel period : 13 March to 20 March 2018 Fligh t: Singapore Airlines to Taiwan, Peach Airlines to Okinawa Hotel: Okinawa Grand Mer Resort (Okinawa), Marine Piazza Hotel (Okinawa), Yomi Hotel (Taiwan) Here's a preview of our 8 Day 7 Night Okinawa  ( Self-drive)  - Taiwan Trip with kids itinerary .  I'll be creating an individual post for each day and include the link soon so that you can read up in detail.  Some time ago, we've booked our air tickets to Taiwan during Singapore Airlines Promotion. Yes, we love Taiwan that much. But this time around, a friend from Taiwan suggested that we can pop by Okinawa too since it's a mere 1 hour plus flight away from Taiwan and the air tickets are pretty reasonable too. So we took Singapore Airlines to Taiwan - Taoyuan airport and took Peach Airlines, a Japanese low-cost carrier (budget) airline to Okinawa. With all the checked-in baggage, we paid about SGD$200+ per pax for Peach Airlines.  ...
