DIY Toddlers Activities: Colour sorting again!

Not sure if I'm just addicted to creating colour sorting activities for sticky bean or was it because the colour sorting activities were just so easy to create that I kept doing different variations over and over again! This time round was with some coloured wooden blocks I found in the house and it requires almost no preparation at all. Materials needed 1. Wooden coloured blocks or you can use LEGO bricks too 2. Piece of paper 3. Crayon I wrote the colour in its corresponding colour on a piece of paper and placed it on the floor. Did a demonstration by displaying the corresponding coloured blocks in the same row. After a few rounds, Sticky bean follow suit. Just making use of her newly found skill of colour sorting and creating same same but different activities. Age attempted: 24 months Duration entertained: 20 - 30 minutes Will I do it again?: Definitely! For more colour sorting activities ideas, do check out the link below. I love some of the...

DIY Toddlers Activities: Colour sorting with Popsicle sticks

Another project using inexpensive and up-cycled materials. Like I mention earlier in the colour sorting with pom pom activity, once your toddler mastered the skill of colour sorting, there're so many variations and endless activities you can do with them! Here's one impromptu version that I came up with while staring at the empty carton which came with my iherb purchase and pondering what to do with it. Materials required: 1. coloured Popsicle sticks (also known as ice-cream sticks)  2. small carton box 3. scissors 4. crayons Simply cut slits in the carton box, colour the slits with the corresponding colours as the popsicle sticks with crayon and voila!  You've got yourself a DIY colour sorting toy! As Sticky bean find the corresponding slit for the popsicle sticks, I'll say the colour verbally as well. As with all other activities with toddler, we need to verbalise every action as much as possible. This will help them register and learn new ...

DIY Toddlers Activities: Colour Sorting with Poms Poms

I've started doing this Toddlers Colour Sorting activity couple of months back since Sticky bean was some 20 months I think and I still do this with her occasionally and added few variations of colour sorting activities ever since. All you need are poms poms and a muffin tray for this activity. Once your toddler master this sorting skill, there're just so many variations you can do with a colour sorting activity! Took me couple of times to do this with Sticky Bean before she finally understands that she is supposed to sort the poms poms in accordance to their colours.   Age attempted: 20 months Duration entertained: 20 mins Will I try it again: Definitely! In fact I've done a few variations of colour sorting activities for toddlers ever since.  For more colour sorting activities ideas, do check out the link below. I love some of the ideas! http://www.learning4kids.net/exploring-colours/

Simple Sensory Play with Upcycled Materials

Alright this is super post dated, been a long time since I posted. As I have a full time job and few months back,I just changed my job due to unforeseen circumstances. Took a while to finally find time to clear my backlog. Here goes, couple of months back I found these tiny pieces of triangular cardboard pieces used as filler in our product shipment so I brought a bag home with me. Thought it can be used as a quick and easy way for sensory play by simply dumping it into a bin with some of the shapes coming from her shape sorter toys. It worked out pretty well, kept Sticky bean busy for a while     I've no idea this can be so much fun for a toddler Age attempted: 21 mths Duration entertained: 15 minutes  Will I try it again? Yes, I see great potential in reusing this for sensory or I spy activities

DIY Toddler's Activities: Just a Simple Carton Box

This is super easy and definitely uses recycled materials. Toddlers have this knack for carton boxes and sitting in it for some reasons. So before we throw the carton box away, we'd take let Sticky Bean have some free play with it. In this case,we let her free play with the empty box before putting in a few colourful plastic balls and she had a ball of time climbing in and out of the box, sitting inside, sitting on top of it..etc. Age attempted: 19 mths Duration entertained: 30 minutes or possibly more Will I try it againe? Definitely Yes!

DIY Toddler's Activities: Pom Pom Drop yet again!

I've previously introduced DIY Toddler's activities using Pom Pom and how I love using pom poms for Sticky Bean's activities as well as how versatile it is. So here I am sharing yet another pom pom drop activity which is simple to make and uses recycled materials too. Materials : 1) poms poms 2) any recycled plastic tub with lid, in my case i used a huge yoghurt tub. The plastic tubs from ice cream containers will work well too So I cut a few holes on the lid so Sticky Bean and push the poms poms through the holes. I cut them in different sizes so she can learn about sizes, cause and effects. Example, for the smaller holes, she will have to push the poms poms and exert strength for the pom poms to drop into the container. Hope this will help hone her fine motor skills further. Alright it's a challenge cutting holes in those lid with a pair of scissors so my holes ain't exactly round. If you're worried about the sharp corners from the jagged edges, y...

DIY Toddler's Activities: Mess Free Finger Painting

And so I read about mess free finger painting for toddlers and I thought, Stick Bean will have fun with this! It's such a easy to make DIY Toddler's activities and I have all the materials at home. All you need is 1) Toxic free Paint or watercolour 2) Ziploc bag 3) masking tape. See how the cute lil toddler enjoys this finger painting from  Laughing Kids Learn Blog It look so fun, I definitely must do this for Stick Bean as well. And mine turned out to be like this I have no idea what went wrong, what seemed to be so easy and simple to make turned out to be a MEGA FAIL for me! Not sure if the type of paint does matter, I got the tubes of water colour from Pentel. It's a small tube and I didn't expect to have to use at least 3/4 of the tube for each colour. I tried to do some 'drawing' on it to entice Sticky Bean but no it did not work. When i first put it up on the wall, she walked over to inspect what i was ...

DIY Toddler's Activities: POM POM Drop Again!

I was sharing about the POM POM drop activity for toddlers previously. I introduced this activity to Sticky Bean when she was 16 months.  Click Here  for the first version of pom pom drop i've attempted. There're just so many variations of pom pom drops for a toddler's activity to ensure that your toddler won't get bored of poms poms so fast! Here's a twist to the pom pom drop activity and it uses recycled materials too. I'm sure you have paper towels at home, just don't throw the roll away when you're done with your paper towels! Stick the paper towel roll to the wall with masking tape and voila! A new pom pom drop activity for your toddler! Sticky Bean was some 19- 20 mths when I attempted this activity for her. It does keep her entertained but for a short while before she change her focus to removing the roll from the wall instead and express interest in playing with the masking tape...=____= Age attempted: 19mths Dura...

DIY Toddlers Activity: Pipe Cleaners

Just like the other DIY Toddler's Activity - the  pom pom drop activity, there can be a few variations to these. (Scroll to the bottom of the page for some other examples.) Pipe cleaners are another versatile item to help toddlers build their fine motor skills and a perfect material for DIY Toddler's activity For a start, i did the following version. Just using the pipe cleaner and recycle her puffs' container by cutting some holes on the cover. Voila! This DIY Toddler's Activity using pipe cleaners kept her occupied for yet another evening whilst I prepare dinner. See how focus she is, trying to insert the pipe cleaners into the puffs' container. I will do another version with the sprinkle/ spice bottle and cut up the pipe cleaners once I've finished using my spice bottle. Sticky bean @ 18 months Some other ideas and examples of  DIY toddler's activities using pipe cleaners: how about a version using colander?  Or a vers...

DIY Toddlers Activities: The Sticky Wall

I will do a rotation for DIY toddlers activities so that Sticky Bean won't get bored of it so fast. Personally toys and activities rotation works for Sticky Bean. We tend to keep her some of her toys and rotate them then she will play with them for a longer period of time. And so as Sticky Bean got bored of the pom pom drop activity gradually, I introduced a new DIY toddler activity for her, which helps in building her creativity and honing her fine motor skills too. Let's just call it the Sticky Wall activity. It's another simple DIY toddlers activities requiring minimal effort to prepare. Materials: Pieces of colourful construction paper / poms poms / feathers / tissue, in fact anything that's lightweight Pair of scissors Temporary glue spray or contact paper (self adhesive sheets) Cut various shapes from the construction papers I came across this product hence thought to try the spray, thinking that it is temporary. But big mistake, this ...
